The trust is committed to the delivery of a first-class confidential service that follows Caldicott principles:
- Justify the purpose(s) of using confidential information
- Only use it when absolutely necessary
- Use only the minimum that is required
- Access should be on a strict need-to-know basis
- Everyone must understand his or her responsibilities
- Understand and comply with the law
The duty to share information can be as important as the duty to protect patient confidentiality.
In addition to the above, the trust will comply with the current legal and ethical framework i.e. GDPR, Human Rights Act and Common Law Duty of Confidentiality.
Occasionally there may be exceptions to this, for example, to support a clinical audit or to monitor the quality of care provided. We will usually discuss this with you beforehand and your personal details will be kept confidential.
